I have just received a call from this number - purporting to be from British Gas - saying they were calling about my account. Actually there was a wait before the guy began to speak, suggesting numerous numbers were being called concurrently. I asked for the post code, but the caller complained that his computer was being very slow and he would have to call me back. I asked his name and number and he gave me 0800 048 0404, which is a British Gas number. I called the number and apparently they had no record of the need for a call.
This has happened before (not sure if it was from the same tel. no.) and the lady (with a strange drawly voice) gave me the first part of the post code and asked me for the second part. She maintained it was correct....it's a let property with prepay meter. She asked for further info. and when I exclaimed that she called me and should have such info, she started talking about data protection!
