I have had about 20 calls from this number this week. After the first few times of ignoring them, and searching the internet to see who they were, I answered and told them to take my number off their system. Needless to say, they're still ringing me

I keep getting calls purporting to be from British Gas - the distinctly non-Haligonian accented caller tell me that he is calling about my account and asks for my "account number". My response is that as he has my phone number and wishes to talk to me about my account, then he must have my account number already. He then informs me it is for "security". My response is that I am a BG customer, my account is up-to-date, so what is their problem with my account? Reply is that they cannot tell me without my account number, whereupon I state that I am not interested in changing my boiler, having solar panels or cavity wall insulation, and if they do not stop ringing me, I will change my provider. I was not aware that BG had a call centre in Halifax, so I rather believe these numerous calls are a fisching expedition.

This number has rung a few times but now gets intercepted by our BT Call Blocker phone. (There is a momentary beep, then a pause whilst the caller is asked by an automated message to state their name which is then recorded. If they do this the phone then rings and the system plays back the caller's name and we have the option to accept, reject or permanently block the caller). In the case of 01422 507247 they must just hang up, but ringing 1471 reveals their number, so they haven't even got the nous to withold it. Clearly a scam, but I would recommend anyone to invest in one of these phones. Since we got it the number of scam and cold caller calls that get through has virtually dropped to zero.
