This is one of the most persistent callers I have come across. Eventually, I found the contact number to remove yourself from their list. (http://www.tnsglobal.com/uk/have-you-been-contacted-for-research/telephone) They claim not to sell on your details from calling numbers on this page.

They still keep calling though at random times, the latest being gone 10pm. Overall 1 or 2 calls a day for the past 3 weeks. -

SERIOUS WARNING...I'm a solicitor dealing with welfare benefit appeals and more and more clients are coming to me after completing this telephone "survey" and within 72 hours their ESA and PIP claims are being suspended or declined. It's my belief that The DWP are using this company to investigate claims and claimants. Yes, the survey is conducted on behalf of the NHS, but under the data transfer rules; The DWP can immediately access the same, so all fully legal and above board but extremely unfair and deceptive

I am sick of this company using my private number to contact me day and night. I am a disabled senior and by the time i get to the phone it's rung off, i do 1471 only to find it's this company. I don't do surveys of any kind so why can't i block them please, after all it's my phone and i pay for it - surely i have the right to decide who calls it? I thought being ex directory meant just that.

Genuine survey company doing government funded research. Got some numbers at the end to verify they are legit. If you're complaining about the 'state of the country' but not willing to partake in research to help improve it then stop moaning!!

I rang the 0800 number below and although Nena Patel doesn't work their any longer , I spoke to a very helpful man called Alex who listened carefully and checked which survey I was being called about. He then took my number off the list and said I would no longer receive calls about that survey. I then asked him if I could have my name removed from all future surveys and he said he would put my number on their exclusion list which would stop any calls except for government surveys and anything I may have signed up for, knowingly or unknowingly, online or other. So, let's hope it all works as I have been called several times a week.

I know no one will listen to anything that I have to say but... I work for TNS. I may have called you. There a lot of bashing going on here and this website is for factual information to help people so I thought I'd give you some.
TNS is a market research organization which has done research for many government bodies including but not limited to: HMRC, BIS (department for buisness, innovation and skill), Public Health England, Sport England, the European commission and these are just the jobs I've worked on.
We do not give your details to anyone as it is against the Market Research Societies Code of Conduct. You can verify that TNS (Taylor Nelson Sofres) is a genuine market research company bu calling the MRS' verification number which is 0500 39 69 99 for free of charge. People who work for TNS are not stupid idiots that strive to ruin your life they are people, mostly students or graduates who are just trying to earn a living instead of claiming benefits. I myself have a double honors degree but everyone assumes that I am doing what I do just because I didn't listen at school.
Ex-directory means just that, you are not in the directory. It does not in anyway prevent anyone from calling you, let alone market research companies.
TPS only covers sales and marketing, as TNS is genuine market research which is 99% of the time working on behalf of government bodies it does not affect us. If you do not want to be called again by TNS (or any other legit research org.) then ask to speak to the supervisor and to be put on an exclusion list. If you do not believe Market research is exempt from the TPS, please go to this website (the tps' website) http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/faq.html. Number 17 down on the FAQ will provide the answer you want.
It is not illegal to call you, or we wouldn't be funded by the government to do it.
Numbers are randomly dialed for the Active Person Survey, which is what this survey is. That means that we are given an area code and the computer randomly dials the last digits. For example: 0208 0000000 then 0208 0000001 etc. This is done at the request of Sport England who have commissioned us who believe it is the best way to get completely unbiased results as we do not know anything about the people we call.

We call 9am-9pm Monday - Friday. 9:30am - 9am Saturday and 10am - 9pm Sundays. We do this because we appreciate that there are people that work shifts, as I myself do, and want to give everyone the chance to take part. Please, next time you tell someone you've had a hard day at work try and understand they are still at work, at least you can relax after you hang up.
I know next to nobody will have read to the end of this but if you have thank you very much and I hope that removes any worry you may have about the legitimacy of TNS. If you have given the person on the phone enough time or asked them they would have explained all this to you, I know I would, as we have nothing to hide.
I am sorry it's been a long one, but I get thrown accusations at me every day of the week and I felt it was only fair that for once I could defend myself and my company without being Hung Up on.

Infact if you think about it, by excluding TPS customers from market research you'd actually be biasing the results of any research that gets done!
TNS provide a valuable service to numerous government offices and other public bodies!
What the people here don't seem to understand is that ultimately a lot of research that's done over the phone can impact their daily lives. I.E where public money is spent based on general public demands. By not completing the (usually incredibly short) surveys these idiots in the thread are actually no longer getting heard.
I'm sure these NIMBYs would be the first to complain if a public service was cut in their area that they use due to a perceived lack of demand because the people didn't take time to listen to the guy on the end of the phone explain himself and thus the research showed that noone in the area used said particular service.
What the below idiots also fail to understand is that by asking civilly, they'll happily put your number on the exclusion list, and that by not answering the survey, hanging up or being rude they're the ones that are increasing their own call count when TNS try at a later date!

No matter how legitimate you think you are you are still causing a nuisance to people which is wrong. You have no legitimate reason to contact the people you are calling.
What I do is give as much false information as possible then at the end ask to be removed. Then report to the TPS. Even if they think they are immune from TPS rules. The more complaints they get the more likely the rules will eventually be changed.
At the very least if they call you answer the phone then wait for a human then hang up. That way you have caused them a nuisance also. If you just ignore or hang up straight away then its caused them no problem. Its only the computer doing all that. Once you answer the computer puts you though to a human. An unlisted number is covered by the Communications Act in which it States that it is illegal to make an unsolicited call to such a number.
The complaint has to be made to OfCom not the DMA via TPS.

Speaking personally, my problem is that TNS do not honour requests to be removed from calling lists. My neighbour and I are both being called on a daily basis by TNS. After declining the survey and asking, politely, to be removed from their database I continued to receive such calls. In the end, after 3 months work of calls I blocked the caller on a Truecall unit. Now they call, get charged for the call, but don't get to bother me.
I block callers very infrequently, preferring to get removed from the lists, but this company just doesn't give up.
I do appreciate your comments but hope you can also see it from the other side of the coin.

Very rude woman who was reading very quickly then asked if I had a few minutes to answer questions for a survey about leisure time. I said that my number was ex-directory and how did she get it. She replied that they use a random number generator and they are allowed to call me. I said I wasn't interested and said goodbye. Cheeky woman.

I said that I charged for taking part in surveys. He said it would only take 5-10 minutes, so I said at my professional rate that was £25. He said so 'over £100 per hr' and I said - yes, for cold calling surveys. He wished me a good day and I wished him the same. I then blocked the number.

I have been getting these calls for about 3 weeks I rang lena patel on the Freephone number she was polite and cooperative she said I will get no more calls thx morgana lets hope this works.i will keep this page informed as to if this stops the calls.

I am fed up with these calls it is a business line and they keep ringing. I have often been interrupted whilst serving a customer and I am sick of these cold callers. Why can't they be stopped from pestering people, there should be a law against them.

Calls anytime from 8am to 9pm, multiple calls a day. At least 5 (that I've answered and told them to removey number) in the past month. 10.45am on a Sunday! This is the last straw. New plan: answer when they ring, ask their name, where they work, how long for, do they enjoy their job, does it pay well, do they have a uniform, what is the uniform, if not why not, what do they wear then, what underwear, do they not like questions, why do this job if you don't like questions, do you find this sort of questioning intrusive, annoying, why,why,why,why?
