Claim I owe a load of money to Bcard. I don't. How do they get my mobile no? They also have my address and d.o.b. is my best course of action to just ignore them?
-
Kept ringing my mobile recently. Finally answered to them today whereupon they claimed they they were acting on behalf of Barclaycard and I owe over 3k. Although I do have a barclaycard I do not owe anywhere near this amount. Slightly worried as they have my address and d.o.b but have no idea how
They obtained my number or this nonsense about unpaid debts. Have asked them to provide proof of transactions, which they said will take 6-8 weeks. Assume my best bet is just to ignore all correspondence from them, not that I have had any anyway!. Will this affect my credit score? Am looking to move house in near future -
These people call me at least 6 times a day. (They have been doing so for about 3 weeks). They are looking for someone I've never heard of and I've had this phone number for 14 years. I have called back repeatedly and told them and they have "promised" to take me of their "DIALLER" but they continue to call. No messages are left when I let the answer phone pick up the calls. I am at my wits end!

Said he wanted someone called Ban Newman. No one called Ben Newman could possibly have lived here for the last 20 years, as we have and had our number for 20 years and are on TPS, so either someone has misused our number or they are lying. If they call again I shall report them to the TPS and anyone else I can find.

This number has appeared daily sometimes three times an hour for the last month. As a rule we don't answer numbers we don't know and have a called display unit which helps.
If as said in another message this company buy expired debts and then chase them up, isn't that breaking the law in its self? Especially as the numbers they are calling are probably nothing to do with the original debt! This appears to me to be harassment on a grand scale. I hope the law changes to prevent this from happening.Jo King replied 2013-01-21 15:29:36they also use "illegal" databases and obtain ex-directory numbers, "illegally". I get letters and calls for a person of the opposite sex, that has an East European name and the only link is that she lives or lived in my home town, which I haven't lived in for over 20 years. It doesn't matter how many times you tell them that they have wrong information and a wrong number, as far as they are concerned, you are a liar and you are the person, so they keep calling and regularly use fake acronyms in an attempt to trip people up lol -
They are PLEBS and use many names
They buy debts that are over 6 years old. Or that are statute-barred
IHTM28384 - Law relating to debts: statute-barred debts
If a lender allows time to pass without receiving any payment an action for recovery may become barred.
Under the Limitations Act 1980 the time limits are
•in simple contracts, 6 years
•in contracts under seal, 12 years.
If the debtor acknowledges the debt in writing or makes a part payment within the original limitation period, then the time limits start to run again from the date of acknowledgement or the date of payment.
Even though the lender may be barred from pursuing recovery, a debtor may decide to pay the debt after the expiry of the time limits. Because of this you should allow a debt which is otherwise statute-barred if the personal representatives pay the debt and you receive evidence that the payment has been made.
These instructions do not apply to debts in Scotland. Under Scottish law, if a lender allows time to pass without receiving any payment an action for recovery may become barred under the Prescription and Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973. (For details of this Act see Gloag and Henderson 12th edition at Chapter4.). These debts are completely extinguished and cannot be enforced. Once the prescriptive period expires the debt cannot be allowed as a deduction.

Just received another of their calls. My number is ex-directory and is not given out, anywhere except for a very small and select group of friends as I only need the line for my Broadband. No matter how many times they are told that their data is incorrect, they still persistently call. This time, they broke the law through "misrepresentation". They claimed they are a company called "MJRR". Shows how trusting and honest those cowboys are when they have to change one letter to try to avoid a correct complaint being made against them. Sadly for them, they broke one law by being evasive but fulfilled the law that states they can "not" withold the number.
