Right let's clear a few things up here so the record can be set straight.
This is a Two-Step Verification SMS number. So basically, when you change your password, or enter new information for an online account, a code is sent from this number, to the phone number you provide on that account, so that they can verify that it is you that has requested the change of info, and not a hacker.
YES!!! It is trustworthy. In the event you receive a message from this number with a code, and you know nothing about it, just ignore the message, scarily it means that someone is trying to access one of your online accounts, you don't need to act on this because they cannot get any further without having access to your phone, this is why Two Step Verification is used in the first place.
Accounts that I have associated with it are;
Google/Gmail
Ubisoft Origins
LinkedIn
EA
Steam
There will be more copanies that use it, don't worry. -
Received expected authentication codes and security notifications from this number on behalf of both eBay and Blizzard Entertainment. It's surely operated by a subcontractor specializing in two-factor authentication.

It's used to send confirmation codes from Yahoo.co.uk. If you get a text from it without requesting it, chances are that someone mis-typed their number and accidentally put yours in.

Needed a Microsoft security code. Got an obvious wrong code. Have gotten the same code for the last 24 hours some 20 times and cannot stop the SMS. Very Annoying because I'm in a roaming loaction...

100% genuine, used by Yahoo/LinkedIn/Steam/Microsoft Azure to contact me with a verification code to confirm my number. In each case they contacted me when their website asked me to confirm my number, so I initiated each text

I received the phone call after I made a hotel booking via Trivago which had connected me to Venere.com
I didn't pick up the call as the name that was showing was 'San Francisco South Bay Area'. I don't know anyone from there and I am living in Asia. Very Dodgy.
less than a second after the call ended, I received a text with my yahoo verification code.
I don't even remember whether I have a yahoo account or not and I never requested a verification code for my account -
Ordered an item from eBay to be delivered to my local Argos store (click & collect). The collection code and notification that the item was ready to collect was sent from this number.
I've also had a Yahoo verification code sent from this number when I reset my Yahoo password. -
I've rencently got a few SMS concerning 2-Way-Factor authentication or account security alerts. I've just read through the comments arcording this number:
1. If you got an SMS saying kinda "your Account might been hacked" or "this your requested auth-code" listen up! Somebody could try to break-in your EMail account. Google (GMAIL) and Outlook (Hotmail/Live) often use this as an security alert!
2. Getting calls from this number is unusual. The only exception I've found: if your provided phone number for any online services security checks is a landline number.
3. If you have blocked this number security codes, such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft, eBay, VoipWise, sometimes WhatsApp, etc... sends them, cloud not be recived anymore and services won't be available in some case to you anymore!
So, my experience is: If you got an SMS from this number like "requested Security Code" and you did not requested anyone, check your password and security settings in order to keep your sentisve data private and secured! -
Received eBay authentication codes for password change from this number. Seems legit.

I have not opened them, and delete them.BlueFireDragon replied 2014-06-14 22:36:03You might shloud check your password and security settings. The number might be from the UK, but online services are global, like as Mircosoft is. Hope not to be that wrong, but Mircosoft Europe HQs and services a provieded by DigitalRiver from the UK. -
Evernote 2 step authentication

I got an SMS for two-factor authentication on LinkedIn from this number - it was a legit SMS.
From the other comments, it looks like other large companies use this number (/service) to send login verifications internationally so they don't have to deal with operating costs themselves.
If you get password reset SMSes from this number that you didn't request, chances are someone is trying to request those on your behalf.
What's interesting, though, is that last year, I got a PHONECALL from this number... I didn't pick up and assumed it was spam. I may have been wrong in my assumption... -
