Stuart reported Home with the number +441415637520 as Cost trap
Wife picked up phone but always wary due to my insistence and previous experience; just heard the woman on the other end ask her if she was *name, and asked if she "was the main user of her computer"; at that point, my wife put the phone down with a cursory "Not interested"

Kim reported Microsoft Engineer with the number +441415637520 as Harassment calls
Said I had trojan virus on my pc and gave me an ID number to confirm they were legit. Passed me on to her supervisor when I didn't play along and asked for their number to verify who was calling me!! Supervisor said he was a Microsoft Certified Engineer and gave me an 0800 number which doesn't exist!

IT Man reported "Microsoft" (NOT Microsoft) with the number 01415637520 as Cost trap
Caller said they were from Microsoft and that my software license was targeted by hackers and was going to be disabled unless they fixed the problem. After they had got me to do lots of technical things "eventvwr" and "sysinfo" to prove that there was a problem they led me to the teamviewer website and talked me into allowing them access to my PC, at this point I was swiftly passed to the line manager who wanted to "fix" the problems and charge me. When I told him there were no problems he proceeded to render my PC useless by adding a password on startup (with syskey) while he argued with me, then he hung up.
The "PC" I used was a virtual machine I setup last weekend since I'd had a few similar calls in the past, so I lost nothing and was able to waste 35 minutes of their time!
But had this been your machine then potentially you could have lost everything, or at the least it would be very inconvenient and maybe costly to get it operational again.
MICROSOFT DO NOT CALL PEOPLE OUT OF THE BLUE TO FIX PROBLEMS - TELL THE CALLER THAT YOU HAVE AN APPLE MAC (OR DON'T HAVE A COMPUTER AT ALL) AND THEY WILL HOPEFULLY TAKE YOU OFF THEIR ANNOYING AND ILLEGAL DATABASE. They seem to change numbers regularly so stay sharp! ;-)
