A call with an automated message about a case being filed against me by HMRC. I have barred the tel. no. (01618 506868) as a scam. Be aware that if you call back, someone might answer as if HMRC. The foreign gent sounded unsure of himself when I queried his being with HMRC, so I laughed and said "I don't think so!"and hung up.

An automated voice informed me that HMRC are filing a lawsuit against me. Press one to talk to your case officer.
Obviously a scam but it will scare the pants off some people. You may rightly assume I'm thinking stronger words than I can write here.Roisin Gruner replied 11/22/18, 1:57 PMHi, just had identical experience. Didn't "press 1" of course! and I have barred the tel.no. as a scam.

After being scammed before are very wary of cold calls and scams. However, this one was picked up without really looking or thinking but I must say this seems a dangerous one because this did sound almost genuine with (as above, claiming to be HMRC). In our case, the line just went dead after it told us to press one to speak to an officer. This is one that could catch unexpecting people out so be careful! We keep it as rule that if in any doubt, ONLY answer numbers that are 0800 or gov numbers (030) unless you are expecting one. They are most likely bad. Sometimes you have to be unfortunate and be caught out like we were once before you have automatic alarm bells set in. They prey on vulnerable and trustworthy people. Disgusting, and as above have a lot of bad words I could add.
