Investigator scam hater reported western Guardian with the number 01788535890 as Cost trap
fell for these guys too, using another number 02476231293. for western guardian, a company that does exist but it seems don't actually sell any newspapers, did some checks with friends in the newspaper industry and they don't exist. its a scam, fake newspaper website to trick you into thinking they are legit, when asking about distribution numbers and areas they couldn't tell me, went on hold and then reeled off some local place names. everything on their website is password protected so you cant actually read anything...weird that!!!
sadly my spideysense wasn't on the ball this am and I fell for it, they had taken some money from us, then my gut feelings kicked in, did some research and spotted this page.
Have spoke with bank who have stopped the payment and blocked our cards for us. we were called by a lass called Kerry, she will try and sell you advertising space for a feature or a wall planner, having trawled other local newspapers to you to find your advert and local place names. it starts off at £120 but then she drops the price to £60 inc vat.
They then say they will get one of their accounts teams to call you back to confirm your ad and payment on a recorded phone line... they all seem to know the patter of a real newspaper sales person but its a con! please don't fall for it like we did.
Scammers and fakes. Action fraud report on its way in! -

I received a call from a guy asking if I wanted to put an advert in their magazine after he saw an advert I placed in a larger magazine, I asked for an email to confirm the business etc, which I received and it looked official so I went ahead and parted with my card details and address with the promise of a proof being sent by email, along with a copy of the magazine being sent to my address, i have called the company every day for the last week and emailed only to be fobed off with different excuses, I have now cancelled my card, and will let everyone know what a con these people are with every means possible.

Sadly I have been well and truly caught by these people. I have bought 'advertising' for a cottage I own from South East Telegraph, Manor House Publishing and Birmingham News. I have recently been threatened with legal action by "Wayne" to pay for a web link which I can only access through their own link. I even think I have paid for it before. Wayne is working for Birmingham News from 38 Regent Street, Rugby CV21 2PN and assures me he is not connected to the Chapel Street people. He phoned me from 01788 540722

I was contacted by my bank 2 weeks ago with a copy of an ad that supposedly related to my 'purchase' - i politely wrote to the bank that I didn't know where the advert had been placed, but it WAS NOT in the brochure they said they'd publish in ... a copy of which is in my bank's possession. Not only that, but the alleged advert had the WRONG phone number - I can't believe they are still operating, they all need locking up, theiving b******ds.Silverwolf replied 8/19/13, 9:05 PMSadly you will find they are all from the same office and just brass neck it. It is all a con. Do not pay any money whatever the threat. Wayne Marks has been at this for some time. He is a massively fat guy who lives with his mum in Church St in Long Lawford. Sadly, as is said above, this is all just a scam. Once hey have your card details, they will continue to charge on a weekly basis against the same card for increasing amounts. The charges are made from registered businesses but not real publications eg South East Telegraph, Birmingham News, Connaught Press, Heavey Enterprises, Manor House Publishing.
You have to cancel your card and inform action fraud.
The key people involved are fairly easy to track down on the net. Toni (Pea) Heavey registered the business but I am not sure she remains involved as she is now a recruitment consultant at Reeds in Coventry. Other key names are Matthew Walker and Tom Chamberlain who seem to have learned this scam while at Wyvern Publishing. Wayne Marks, a sad, humongous fat bloke who still lives with his mum in school street, long Lawford is recruiting through the job centre for more telesales marketers. He is also directly involved in the scams.
Although they do not seem to operate he call centre from their stated address of 47-48 Church Street Rugby, they a operating in the town possibly from 20 Regent Place.
2 lessons here. 1 never give you details to someone who contacts you rather than the other way about and 2 It is astonishing what you can track down in a few hours in the Internet. I made payment to these people too, for advertising in an upcoming event brochure of almost £230, (I stupidly paid twice, as they rang back the next day and said the payment hadn't gone through, I did actually check with my bank, and there was nothing showing as having gone through the day before, but it did appear within a few days]. I've been in touch with Action Fraud as well as my Bank. These scammers rang me from 4 different 017885* numbers over 2 days ... I have emailed them, no response, I have called them MANY times, no reply other than once, and he would not give me his name, only his job title, Sales Director [Southeast Telegraph]... I'm a disabled single-mum running a small business who cannot afford this at the best of times, least just before Xmas.

they sell you advertising space in a newspaper that does not exsist and will not even print the add that you asked for, it is all a fake and a scam, just search for what ever newspaper you are apparantly speaking to on google and it wont exist or it will be a rubbish scam website.

SET have contacted my company several times either claiming artwork, editorial etc has been sent by us and advert has now gone to press, therefore payment required now. Obviosuly I have or my company have had no dealings with them, ever! They have called on average 3 times a week over past month. Once they realise that we know its a scam they put the phone down. Name to watch out for is Matt Walker.
