The call was clearly a scam, the person on the phone asked (in a very poor english) to confirm the second part of my post code, he knew the first part. The person terminated the call as soon I expressed my concern about revealing any personal details on the phone.

Said he was calling from British Gas.
Asked if we could "go over the details to check everything is correct".
Companies don't spend money employing people to do that.
So I told him fine, if he could wait while I googled his phone number.
He said, "riiight.. Ok, well <click>
Dial tone.
Maybe he remembered he didn't work for British Gas or have any benevolent motivation for calling me.

Absolute nuisance marketing calls. Call me at least twice a day in the last week and even tried calling me on my landline. Number is now blocked.

Not great that this comes up as unknown number. British Gas Engineers like to call you before they turn up to make sure you're in. This was the reason I was called from this number.
