similar call - an awful "scratchy" line which was almost impossible to speak over.
felt like an overseas call centre and although checks out on the british gas site as one of their numbers I believe it to be spoofed on this occasion.
3 call attempts on Fri / Sat / Mon and never a message left, or an attempt to contact by email instead, so don't trust this number folk. -

called at 18-36 and poor speaking english guy after my gas data and post code. Fraud I think.
Big H replied 10/23/15, 6:04 PMI keep getting phone calls from males called Kenny or Martin who I am not convinced are English by their accents. They know my name and part of my postcode and say that they are from British Gas. When I asked the reason for calling me, they say they need to check security details, before they answer these questions, namely the last bit of my postcode and my policy number, neither of which I give. I say them that I will call British Gas from the web or phone directory number (and NOT from the 1471 number which feeds back to a Engish sounding female voice who answers for British Gas and asks for me to press the required key-in number). Call me paranoid but I am not convinced by this. A genuine call to BG confirmed that I had no problems with them. Did the dodgy sounding people 'cut & paste' the female voice onto their phone number? It has been done with a High Street bank e-mail to me, again phishing.
