  1. lynwen reported Greenpeace with the number 02034117203

This number is Greenpeace, asking for a monthly donation towards 'saving the Arctic'. I listened politely to the opening argument as to why I can make all the difference and then explained that, as I already support several charities, I cannot support Greenpeace, though I do admire Greenpeace and the work it does as an organisation. I simply have other priorities that I support and am not in a financial position to add to my giving. Although very polite, the man on the other end of the phone would not take no for an answer. He offered me a slightly reduced monthly rate of giving and then suggested I sign up today and cancel down the line. He admitted that this practice would enable him to claim commission for having signed me up. I told him I do not sign up to monthly outgoings over the phone without carefully assessing my budget and that I would not consider it. In the end the only way to end the call without being rude was to agree that he could phone me back in future. It's all very well spreading awareness of organisations like Greenpeace but to cold call with commission for successful outcomes puts enormous pressure on both telemarketer and potential client. I do disapprove of such practices and wish I had never taken whatever survey it was that has handed out my phone number to all and sundry.
