This is a scam reported Connect Mobile with the number +442035405933 as Sweepstakes, lottery
I was charged £18 in June and a further £30 in July for a series of texts (£6 per texts) on my mobile bill. EE, who is my mobile provider said they could not refund me the charges as they were from a 3rd party for services such as an entry in a prize draw, or a game download, which apparently I had requested, and as such they could not refund the charge. They told me the company that provided the services is called Connect Mobile Limited and asked me to call this telephone number.
I have tried calling this number, but it cuts off after 5/10 minutes. I have also searched for this company at Companies House, but the only company with a similar name that I can find was dissolved in August 2014.
My next course of action is to register a formal complaint with EE and follow their complaints procedure which is laid out on their website. Others may wish to do the same with their mobile providers. (Continued on next post as only 1000 characters allowed on each post)
As I understand it, mobile providers have to have a formal complaints procedure and if a resolution cannot be achieved within 8 weeks the customer has a right to ask for a deadlock letter so the matter can then be taken further with OFCOM who will then make a judgement.
I cannot understand how mobile companies can wash their hands of the matter. They collect the monies on behalf of these companies but it does not seem they have any checks in place to ensure that a genuine transaction occurred. It also appears that mobile companies are unable or unwilling to block 3rd party charges if the customer so wishes.
I hope that others will follow the above action so if enough people make a fuss, something will be done to prevent companies from charging fraudulently. Apparently, this used to happen a lot in the US but they put legislation in place to prevent it-google FCC and cramming.
