It seems the callers who use this number are scammers. Today I have received a call from this number. The caller has introduced himself as an officer of the HMRC Fraud Department. Then he asked me to tell him my name, surname and social insurance number. Afterwards he stated that I allegedly owe the HMRC more than £3000 and have to attend the court hearing. I've realized that this is a scam and, therefore, asked the caller to email me all relevant information. Once I've said that, the caller hung up.

Automated inland revenue message demanding 'you or your solicitor'-no name of intended recipient, real HMRC would never leave a message without naming the person, also, they'd never use any method that could be disclosed to someone who is not the recipient. For legal matters, you would absolutely receive an official letter, data protection laws make the ways that any government institution or financial institution contacts an individual very clear and there are rules. If in doubt, call HMRC on their official telephone number and ask them how they will and will not contact you, they will explain exactly how they communicate with people and businesses. Don't call the number given in the message, look up the real one on their official site. Makes me so angry that these folks are making money off people, they must be raking it in if there are so many new ones starting all the time.
