This is a genuine Santander number but it is not impossible for a fraudster to appear to be calling from it (or any number). Santander will not call you without a valid reason so unless you are certain you have never had any previous dealings with Santander, Abbey National, Alliance & Leicester or Girobank you should follow the advice to take the caller's name and ring back to a published Santander number using either a different landline or a mobile.

The chap called providing some personal details for me to confirm and asking me to call re new payment (£20,000 business acount). Later, I phoned bank. Initial team do not have this number. The guy on phone then helpfully called security dept' who confirmed it was a genuine number.

I didn't answer the call but just wanted to write a message as I've seen the comments from people saying it's Santander Bank, however I do not have anything associated with Santander so they have NO reason to call me.

Be very careful of this because it is possible to send fake caller IDs to mobiles. I have a Santander account and they have my landline number but I'm still getting calls from this number on my mobile for no obvious reason. I just don't answer them.

I got a call from this number and they said it was Santander they ask me for security I said no and I asked what department you are from and got told I can not tell you until you go through security so I said what different does it make why you can not say I told the person on the phone it's a scam thy put the phone down

Phone call to my mobile so impossible to NOT hang up the call. Caller introduced himself and asked to run through security which I refused. He asked me to please call back on a number I was comfortable with and was quite happy for me to do this. I used my landline to phone Santander on the number I knew and after much searching they found the gentleman who had called me. He was in the complaints department and was calling with regard to a survey I had completed and the recording of my telephone conversation with his colleague. He said he would feedback to the staff member, make sure the complaint was logged in completion and that he would like to give me £10 as a good will gesture which I've checked and has been credited. Be safe by taking their name and phone Santander back on a number you know (I used 08459 724724).

I have received a call from +441908962000 at 08:12 from somebody telling me that he is calling from Santander regarding security issues. I was in deep sleep. He asked me for my present and old address also my date of birth. I gave him these details and then he gave me a number which is 08456039035 to call regarding the security issues. I have sent an email to Santander customer care to bring this matter into their knowledge.

Santander are guilty of requesting personal details from customers. They use an automated speech machine with an English voice which pronounces English names ending in "ale" as in Gonzales. I feel this one could be a scam, the number Santander use for account warnings is 08453512276, but I've blocked that as well, as I think it is disgusting to suggest it is OK to disclose personal information.
The best way to check that your dialling tone is valid is to call someone you know, or your mobile to see if it gets through. -

Claims to be Santander phoning re: fraud on your account. Asks for security information. Refuses to give you any details. When questioned asks you to phone number on back of your card. Checked my accounts online which showed no suspicious activity. It's the classic 'not hung up' scam as reported by Bob in the other comments. DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY DETAILS and contact your real bank via secure online messaging or by calling on another phone line.

They should have introduced themselves before asking you security questions though. -

The number of calls I receive from this number daily is getting ridiculous! When I answered once, the caller claimed to be calling from Santander and then went on to ask me about my motrgage as well as my bank accounts or rather whether I had any with other banks. I said that I didn't have the time to talk now but that I would call again later.
I don't think the call is trustworthy and I never give out private information on the phone. -

this is not a santander number, I was uspicious and walked to local branch 1 min away from office. The customer services told me there were no sec issues or calls, the number is not recognised on their database, and the lack of call options are not consistent with Santander....
