   Got a phone call from this gentleman the other day offering me shares they had bought "in bulk" at an "institutional rate" (if you're dumb enough to fall for this). He then sent me an e-mail from Witter-Financial.com. The website looks and feels rather unprofessional for a financial services firm. The offer was dodgy (who sells shares at a discount?). The gentleman claimed to be a native speaker of English but clearly had an Eastern European accent. He asserted that he was calling from Hong Kong but I was able to track the mail to the Balkans. There is no company by the name of Witter Financial Group. It's just a couple of fraudsters that have created a website (mistake-ridden at that) and launched a couple of fake press releases.

   You've got to be rather naive to fall for this scam but that's exactly what the scam is designed to do - namely to milk the gullible. And by the sounds of it there still are people that fall for this stuff although this is by no means a very sophisticated fraud from the rather dilettante approach of the callers to the unprofessional-looking website, phony names of the callers, fake addresses, suppressed phone numbers and concealed IP on the e-mails.
