  2. jhawcroft reported PC World Maintenance Department with the number 01234765093 as Cost trap

I recently had a call claiming to be PC World Maintenance Dept (or similar) trying to inform me that my computer was downloading viruses etc, I've worked in the IT industry for 20 years so my response to them was to say 'Rubbish' upon which they hung up on me. I got the number 0441234765093 after doing a 1471.

Guessing they were going to try and 'sell' me some antivirus software!

  3. Ian reported number 01234765093 as unknown

Just had a call from our indian friends about my PC being corrupt, told them I was not interested, put the phone down. Concerned that during the call they had my name postcode and address. Just been on the telly this week about these kind of people, contacted Virgin Media, they are aware of these idioits

  4. taurusmmuk reported number 01234765093 as unknown

This is a company that say they are a "Microsoft Certified Company", and that you have errors and malware on your computer. They then try to get you to go to, so that they can ostensibly "sort out" your problems by connecting to your computer but in reality they are trying to look for financial gain, i.e. passwords, credit card details or bank details.

  5. John reported unknown with the number +441234765093 as Cost trap

If you get a call from these jokers tell them they are nothing to do with Microsoft or their faults department. They are not removing malware, they are installing it!

This is a call that comes from India, diverted through an unregistered number. Guess how they can do that? They work for one of the call centres in India that are used by a UK phone provider.

The company they are linked with are currently investigating.

If you have broadband and your PC is on check your PC after the call. You may find your firewall disabled. I use Virgin media security and always keep everything active. Then scan for any viruses, worms, trojans or malware to check all is as it should be. Today they were using malware that looked like Norton - we don't use Norton on this PC.

Be smart, these people don't care if they screw around with your PC or laptop. They just want your money. Unless you have contacted Microsoft or their departments to deal with a known issue. The person calling is scamming you.
