Purports to be from the National Electricity Company offering to save pensioners 40% on energy bills for life. When I told him that there was no such company the phone went dead. These scammers need to be stopped before they prey on vunerable people who are unaware of the risks.

They rang my mum (pensioner) saying they were from the "electricity board" and that they can save her money on her electricity. All it would cost would be £129 for a "device". They appeared to know her name, address and some of the numbers on her bank card!
They wanted other information from her card, thankfully she wouldn't give it to them and hung up. -

Told I would get 40% discount on my energy bill as I was a pensioner. Knew my name and address asked what my initial stood for, which I told him, asked my date of birth which I told him, asked the expiry date on my credit card which I DID NOT tell him. He said he would send details.

This number keeps calling me and hangs up when I answer.
This is obviously another scam artist that needs to be taken to task.Doc replied 3/4/14, 7:47 PMSame today, two callers, first caller was from " Electricity Board" and offered 40% off our electricity bill as we are over 60- till the rest of our lives!!!(How did he know we are over 60? Guessed? He knew our address.) Confused story about a device to attach to all our machines which will save us 40%. He wanted to know our Direct Debit Card expiry date. I told him that doesn't exist and anyhow I don't discuss such details on the phone. That was the end of it. One hour later another call from same number, different voice, asking me by my name and then put the phone down. -

Strange call to pensioners claiming to offer device that reduces electricity costs.wantd 120 upfront.said they were the electricity board!
pafc replied 11/7/12, 3:52 PMI had just the same call. I decided to be nice as pie to get the phone number from 'Janet' from 'the Electricity Board'. She completely forgot to ask for any money! Thank goodness. The number I have is 0161 408 1233 - very close to that above.
