just had acall reported unknown with the number +442030045597 as Cost trap
This number just called re: telephone preference service and asked if I had received a lot of calls recently. She said they (and I thought it was from BT)
could prevent overseas calls for 50p per week.
I pointed out that this was a sales call and against TPS. She said it was just a service they were offering.
I suspect a lot of elderly people will be taken in on this one.Filby replied 1/16/14, 2:55 PMGot a similar call today from this number identifying itself as the Telecom Protection Service calling about nuisance calls! Are they serious?? -

Perhaps the most evil scam I know. Pretend to be a government body, steal £80 from vulnerable people to supposedly stop nuisance calls.Oh and making a nuisance call in the first place. Told the lady caller she should look into her heart but she shrugged it off. Heartless criminals!

Identified I'd been receiving nuisance calls, er doesn't everybody these days. Would registered with TPS , told him already on it. Would send me a device to stop international nuisance calls. Wanted paying. Told him his call was an unsolicited nuisance call so what did he reckon his chances of extracting money from me were? A right bunch of scammers.

Bogus con-company
had a call from a Liam stating he was from the TPS and had noticed I'd had a higher level of unwanted calls and offered a premium service for £79.99. Asked if there were details on the TPS web site and he said it should all be there. Wasn't pushy, but very untruthful. -

I recently received a call from this number. When I answered, a male voice said that he was calling from Telecom Preference Service and asked if we had received a lot of nuisance telephone calls in the past few weeks. When I told him yes, he offered a device to block phone calls that would cost £1.90 per month. However, I have been under the impression that all the services that TPS offered regarding nuisance calls were free, so I figured that this was some kind of scam and told him that I'd rather have more information on the deal before I agree to anything but he just hung up.
