I don't say anything anymore when I pick up the phone.
That way I don't get into an argument/discussion I don't want.
Anyone legitimate phoning me will usually say something once the ringing tone stops.
If the're not legitimate, they hang up quickly and move on to call someone else. Anyone I want to speak to will have my mobile number anyway and can get me on that. Works well for me. -

Caller wouldn't identify company he was calling from (when asked), just gave a first name that I didn't recognise, then launched into a bizarre rant about how rude I was for asking, for "talking over him", and then proceeded to put the phone down. Whatever company he represents, they don't seem to be competent or professional. So best avoided.
