At 1050 30 October 2013 I received a call from a male calling himself "Keith" saying he was from Santander Bank and he wanted to talk to me about my account. He said he wanted to run through some security checks with me at which I said that I was not prepared to give any personal information on a "cold call" because, I told him, I was very suspicious. He said that was fine and could I call back on 0845 603 9035 which was open until 1900 hours. I said I would check things out and call him back. I immediately checked the number given to me on the Santander website and found it was the correct number for Santander. I called the bank and discovered that there had been not contact with me from Santander and no reasons on my account as to why they should. Santander said that often a scammer would call you on your landline then if you got suspicious they would give you the correct number for the bank. If you go to call back the legitimate number, from the same landline, unbeknown to you, the scammer has not hung up and has kept the line open. This means you don't get the bank on the legitimate number you just get directly to the scammer. Please share this post in an effort to prevent possible future scams. Do not give any details out unless you are sure that you have called your bank on a recognised banking number.

This is definitely Santander Bank and is genuine.
Woodrow1 replied 2019-09-11 17:11:07This is DEFINITELY NOT NOT NOT a ligit Santander Number. Its a scammer. I got a call this evening...I know the routine well by now. Santander would not ask the questions that previous scammers saying they were from Santander had asked. Lets all be upfront & Truthful about this, for all we know..a scammer could be putting fake info on this page
.Saying "Yes it is definitely Santander"Mark replied 2019-09-11 18:52:34Maybe other people are spoofing it, but it's definitely been Santander every time I've received a call from that number. -
SCAM! ... Checked a message from this number left on my answering machine. A woman's voice said that " this is Santander, we want to speak to you about a recent £10,000 business account withdrawal" "We will call you back again shortly" ... yeah right! ... I do not bank with Santander, neither privately or as a business... scare tactics to get to you answer the phone next time they call.. I don't think so!
-
100% a Santander number.
If you are ever not comfortable answering any questions then ask them to write to you. (Without telling them your address as they should already have it) -

There's something very screwy about this number. They've just tried to call on my landline, it rang three times and then cut off. Immediately I was called on one of my mobiles by the same number but the problem is it wasn't the number I have currently registered with Santander, it's one that was removed from my account about a week ago.
When I tried to call back I got a recorded message saying Santander tried to call.
I don't know if this is a scam or not but it's a real nuisance. -
This is Santander - they called to check suspicious activity on my account.
(If you don't have an account with them, it is possible someone else made a typo when they entered their number on a form and put yours instead. Give the poor callers a break)John replied 2014-11-27 17:32:12You can't call this number back, it just goes to a recorded message. -
Legit number
-
I received a call from 'Jamie' allegedly of Santander regarding a query on account. Did not answer his questions and enquiries with Santander state that it is a scam call.

Santander bank

100% Santander. I work for Santander!
-
This is NOT Santander. They called on this number and asked me to go through security. I called the main number back and they confirmed it wasn't them who had called me, even though this number is verified as them on lots of sites.
Mark replied 2019-12-11 18:29:15Maybe other people are spoofing the caller id, but it's definitely been Santander every time I've had a call from this number.
If in doubt, call Santander from another phone to check. (if you call from the same phone, then it's possible that the original call hasn't ended, so you could potentially still be talking to the same people that rang you) -
At 1600hrs today I had a call from this number asking to talk to my wife, they knew her first name, how, I don’t know. He said that he was from Santander bank and they had noticed some unusual local activity on her card, and then proceeded to ask for date of birth and mother’s maiden name, I immediately realised that it was a scam call and taking the phone from my wife, told the caller in no uncertain terms where to go
Mark replied 2019-11-23 12:51:32From the information you've given, it sounds more likely that this was a genuine call. -
Has repeated called me. Apparently santander but I've never banked with them so seems very suspicious.
-
This is a genuine Santander number. I am speaking to them about a mortgage and when I missed a call from this number they sent me a text and an email directing me to the Santander site where all the details of my case are kept. I have been called on this number before also. It's 100% genuine.

A genuine call to my mobile, in response to a complaint message I had sent via online banking.
-
I'm unsure why so many people think this number is a scam, unless scammers can make your phone show this number in replacement of their own.
I've had several calls from this number and the caller knew details about my account that only the bank could know. I'd made an online complaint and hadn't told anyone, and they knew of previous issues I'd had with my account.Matt Hall replied 2020-10-02 10:48:55Scammers frequently spoof the caller ID and can use genuine numbers belonging to banks. The telephone system is NOT secure, even though banks often treat it as such. It is no more secure than e-mail. -
I kept getting calls from this number twice daily. Sometimes it would ring once and then hang up. I rang back and it said I was contacted by Santander.
I rang the original Santander number to ask why they keep contacting me and leave no message. They said they hadn't and the number I gave them was not a santander number, to block them and never give personal details. -
It is Santander but they bombard you with silent calls.
-
This is santander I rang them about something and this is the number they rang me back on with me speaking to the same named member of staff I spoke to when I rang the number on the back of my debit card
-
Santander security team. Checked it out. Legit.
-
Yes - it's Santander - they had bank info correct without me providing too much - however, they're really just trying to sell you extra services.
-
Claimed to be Santander, but Santander deny that they have not been trying to contact me.
-
Genuine call from Santander
-
Called when I was on a call to a client. Called back and received a short voicemail that the call was from Santander.
Called Santander Business Banking who advised there was no notes on their system about a call being made nor any reason why they would call and their security team were unaware of this number.
Dodgy as fuck. -
They were calling me back from an incident which I raised the day before, legit number.
-
This IS Santander Bank number. They called me about PPI I had on a Debenhams card
-
This is a Santander number. In my case, I made a complaint, so their complaints department called me from this number.
-
This number is Santander. They contacted me when I tried to make a large transaction via Western Union and needed to confirm it was me. I was successfully able to make the transaction after the call. Very helpful.
-
I received a call from 0800 389 0755...missed it so thought it was a client and called it back, voicemail stated it was Santander and they would call back. First issue I had with this is I don't or never have banked with Santander.vso I sourced the local branch number to enquire if someone had opened an account in my name or if there were any fraudulent activity regarding my name number. They gave me the correct number for customer service. 0800 9123 123 they advised that the above number on this feed does not relate to them and it's spam. So I would advise not to pick up or give any sensitive information.
howie replied 2017-02-07 16:02:47It absolutely IS Santander. I spoke to them for ages yesterday on this number when I had to change my mobile contact details. I first called on the regular service number and they had a lady from security called me back from this number. -
Guy saying he was from Santander. As far as i'm aware Santander don't have my mobile number!!! he wanted me to confirm security details, then he could tell me about rate changes. This call did not sound genuine so told him i'd call into branch. He did an awful lot of stuttering through out the call as if he was being cautious on what he was saying.
-
Not spam, its SANTANDER, they called me three times and missed me when they got me it was to answer a few questions abiut a PPI claim from a claims company. As advised they got no information as its a common PPI trait to 'catch you out on tape'. Pleasant lady, call ended. Santander but ' the ppi claims bit' that you 'should expect' when claiming missold ppi
-
This was Santander ringing me back about a complaint I had made.
John replied 2015-09-14 19:52:10Correct, they seem to be the credit company behind most ppi claims -
This is a genuine Santander number but it is not impossible for a fraudster to appear to be calling from it (or any number). Santander will not call you without a valid reason so unless you are certain you have never had any previous dealings with Santander, Abbey National, Alliance & Leicester or Girobank you should follow the advice to take the caller's name and ring back to a published Santander number using either a different landline or a mobile.
-
It is a genuine number from Santander.

This n umber is santander calling abut possible suspicious account activivty
-
The chap called providing some personal details for me to confirm and asking me to call re new payment (£20,000 business acount). Later, I phoned bank. Initial team do not have this number. The guy on phone then helpfully called security dept' who confirmed it was a genuine number.
-
I didn't answer the call but just wanted to write a message as I've seen the comments from people saying it's Santander Bank, however I do not have anything associated with Santander so they have NO reason to call me.
sarah replied 2016-08-29 13:36:32a lot of people have store cards (such as Debenhams) and do not realise that Santander financed them (as GE Money). This is a genuine Santander number -
Was Santander calling as arranged re insurance. Please remember that scammers can "clone" the number you see on screen. If you are expecting a call from Santander it will be them, if not it MIGHT be scammers.
-
This is a Santander number. They rang me in connection with a complaint which only they would have known about.
-
Be very careful of this because it is possible to send fake caller IDs to mobiles. I have a Santander account and they have my landline number but I'm still getting calls from this number on my mobile for no obvious reason. I just don't answer them.
If this phone number keeps calling you, the answer should be yes!
