   Like others on here, I frequently post things for sale on Gumtree. Today, after posting an item, I received a text from this number, asking me to contact them by email. I did (but as I smelled a rat from the get go, I used an alternative email address that they can spam as much as they like) - and they replied almost instantly and very similarly to what others have received from them:-
   
   "Thanks for getting back to me,am really new to buying things on Gumtree i want the camera, i would like you to answer my questions here thou i went thru the ad, where are you located? can u assure me i will not be disappointed? are u the 1st owner? when av u been using it? and hope no issues? if you have more pics to send me here for a better look. am currently out of reach and so i can only pay u via PayPal as it is very safe and secure for this kind of transaction or can alternatively send me your sort code and account number so i can make the payment to your bank account Do u have a paypal acct? i do have a mover coming to pick it up after payment. what is your last price as well? pls get back to me asap so we can proceed"
   
   Of course, I duly replied - with a link to this and other pages I found their details on:-

   Sent a few weird texts to me work phone about meeting me and going to cinema. Very odd block and delete anything from this number

   Scammer still at it on Gumtree. Received the following message today. Glad I Googled the number and arrived here. Seemed to good to be true and I was suspicious.
   
   Great! please consider it sold and please cancel every other appointment regarding it as I am willing to pay your full asking price because I need to buy it for my cousin as a gift, I have read through the advert and I'm totally satisfied with it,sadly i would not be able to come personally to collect due to my hearing loss and me being in wheelchair.
   I have a courier agent that would help me to pick it up at your preferred location after you have received your money and i'll pay you via PayPal.
   Where is the pick up location so that I can inform the courier agent about it now?

    I am a regular user of gumtree to buy and sell. I noticed that the messages I have received showing interest in my item were very similar! Can't believe this person or whoever it is? Is still on here! I must have had this person respond around 5 times in the last couple of years and each time they change the story slightly, either they are on an oil rig lol or deaf & blind etc and are unable to collect themselves so will meet with a courier and must pay by pay pall.. dodgy!

    Contact in response to Gumtree ad. Suspiciously asked for email reply to [email protected]. Text not specific enough wrt the ad, raising concern.

    Suspicious response to Gumtree ad asking me to email them direct and then accept urgent Paypal transaction. A common SCAM apparently.
