Dear Don, would you kindly contact us by emailing [email protected] so we can investigate.

It could be that if you told us that you do not wish to take part that your company is in the sample more than once. We would certainly appreciate the opportunity to investigate.

If you also let us know the number we called you on we will add you to out do not call list.

    Kind regards,

  6. Graham reported number 01707384048 with score 9

A lot of people such as myself work shifts and oncall. I now have unsolicited calls disturbing my sleep pattern. I will now be presenting this company with a personal information disclsure under GDPR.

    QRS Director replied 2019-02-13 09:37:50
Dear Graham, we apologise for any inconvenience we may have caused. If you would like further information regarding the reason for our call please feel free to contact us. Kind regards, QRS
    Jenny replied 2019-02-13 10:33:21
We had problems with these pests calling our Technical Support line despite it being regististered with the TPS and our explicitly asking them not to call.

In the end we just silently blocked their number on our 'phone system. Now when they call they get a ringing tone so they think the 'phone is ringing but it doesn't disturb us, it just wastes their time instead.
    QRS Director replied 2019-02-13 10:42:16
Dear Jenny, if you simply registered your number on our Do Not Call List we would have blocked your number. As previously discussed the ICO make genuine research exempt from TPS. If you would like to check our company please contact the Market Research Society. Kind regards, QRS.

PS Feel free to contact us if you would like to discuss the nature of the research we conduct.

    Jenny replied 2019-02-13 10:55:26
Why should we have to register with every spammer who might call us? Our TPS registration alone should be enough. As I said, you were explicitly asked not to call again but you ignored our request, in fact you told us it wasn't possible to remove our number from your spam list. We've solved the problem from our side now. You can continue wasting your time trying to call us.
    QRS Director replied 2019-02-13 11:00:53
    Dear Jenny,

I doubt we are trying to call you. You state that we ignored your request but you have not contacted us so that we can investigate. We would/should always respect your rights if you did not wish to take part.

    Kind regards,
    Jenny replied 2019-02-13 11:11:21
There were unanswered calls from your number last time I checked the 'phone logs. The simple fact that you ignored our request tells me you don't respect our rights. All you need do is voluntarily respect TPS registration, regardless of your "special exemption" (as one of your operatives told us).
    QRS Director replied 2019-02-13 15:05:31
Dear Jenny, there are valid reasons why the ICO allows us to be exempt from TPS.

We would be happy to discuss if you ever wish to contact us.

    Kind regards,
    Jenny replied 2019-02-13 15:29:57
Perhaps you don't understand the word "voluntarily". Your special exemption does not prohibit you from declining to call TPS registered numbers or anyone who, as we have, made it clear they don't want to be pestered by you.
    QRS Director replied 2019-02-13 15:35:09
Dear Jenny, we have made several offers to investigate your claim. As previously discussed if something has genuinely gone wrong then we apologise. However, unless you contact us how can we investigate? You are correct taking part in research is voluntary which is why we have always wanted to investigate your claim. Would you give us the courtesy of being able to investigate your claim once and for all?

    Kind regards,

    Jenny replied 2019-02-13 15:54:32
What is there to "investigate"? You were asked several times not to call us. You ignored those requests so we just blocked your number. Problem solved from my point of view.

Hasn't it occurred to you that people register with the TPS and explicitly ask you not to call precisely because they don't want to be pestered!
    QRS Director replied 2019-02-13 16:04:37
Dear Jenny, we would like to investigate when you were called and by which member of staff (using our call logs). From the claim you are making it would appear that our procedures have not been followed. We have very strict guidelines and procedures to follow so any breach should be investigated. We have no interest in calling someone who has indicated that they do not wish to take part in the research study they were contacted about or wish to join our do not call list.

In regards to TPS there are valid reasons as to why we are exempt but this website is not the place for those to be discussed. However, we would welcome the opportunity to investigate your claim and maybe explain a little about our business and the organisations we work for.

    Kind regards,

QRS research call regarding business banking.

    QRS Director replied 2019-01-09 15:00:36
QRS can confirm that we are conducting the 2019 UK Business Banking Survey. This is the definitive business banking survey that measures the service being delivered by banks to UK businesses.
  8. Sharon reported QRS with the number 01707384048 as Telemarketer

Pushy marketing call claiming to be "market research". The female caller was very rude when I told her the number was TPS registered and claimed I was required by law to answer her questions about the business. She wouldn't listen to reason so I just ended the call.

    QRS replied 2018-11-12 11:44:12
Dear Sharon, we would like to investigate this. Please could you contact 01707 331332 and ask to speak to one of the Directors so we can follow up on this.

    Kind regards,

Calling from different 01707 numbers marked Welwyn Garden City. I believe they are probably researchers but annoying they are calling from diff numbers so can't be blocked properly. People don't want to talk about their bank over the phone to strangers! Fill out forms in banks anonymously...maybe?!?!?!

    QRS Director replied 2018-10-30 13:02:21
I am a Director of QRS. We use the number 01707384048 as our primary outbound number. We conduct the UK Business Banking Survey regarding businesses experiences with their bank. This information is used by the Banks to determine their performance using independent data.

We fully appreciate that not everyone will want to help and provide their feedback and will always respect your wishes. The research provides important information to the banking industry as well as other organisations (it has previously been used by the CMA).
    Mike replied 2018-10-30 13:15:22
If QRS really respected our wishes, they wouldn't call TPS registered numbers.

Personally I'm fed up being pestered by them!
    QRS Director replied 2018-10-30 13:19:48
Dear Mike, genuine market research is exempt from TPS as we are not marketing or sales.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by our call.

    Kind regards,
    Mike replied 2018-10-30 13:26:59
That's just hiding behind a loophole in the law. You may be legally exempt but TPS registration should give you a clue that the person doesn't want to be pestered by marketeers OR "researchers".

If you at least stuck to presenting the same number we could block calls from you. Presumably that's why you present different numbers.

    QRS Director replied 2018-10-30 13:47:49
Dear Mike, we have only used two numbers in the past 2 years regarding these activities 01707384048 and 01707384044.

QRS works for a range of organisations including the NHS and Health Care Sector and Govt Departments, as well as the financial sector. It is not a loop hole as to why bona fide research organisations are exempt from TPS.

We apologise again for any inconvenience caused by our call.

    Kind regards,
    Jenny replied 2018-11-13 11:26:11
My company received several calls from them on our Technical Support. The number is TPS registered and not published as it's intended for the exclusive use of our clients. They were told this and asked to remove our number from their spam list but they refused, claiming they're exempt from the TPS. We've blocked the numbers we know they use now so, with luck, we should be free of them.
    QRS Director replied 2018-11-14 10:38:21
    Dear Jenny,

Although QRS is exempt from QRS we can remove your number from being called on a project again. If you visit

It provides the information you require. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Kind regards,
    Jenny replied 2018-11-14 10:59:18
It would be far better if you didn't call TPS registered numbers in the first place. It should be obvious they don't want to be pestered by telesales or "researchers" like you. It's bad enough that we have to register with TPS (it ought to be an opt-in process) but now you expect us to register with the individual nuisances as well. No thanks! We have already blocked all the numbers we know you use so you can continue to waste your time trying to pester us without actually succeeding.
    QRS Director replied 2018-11-14 11:04:30
    Dear Jenny,

There are reasons as to why the UK Government and the ICO make bona fide members of the Market Research Society exempt from the TPS.

Once again we apologise for any inconvenience caused by our call.

    Kind regards,
    Jenny replied 2018-11-14 12:25:17
So what are those reasons? Perhaps you could list them on your website. Legal or not, the fact remains you pester people who have made it clear they do not want to be pestered by telesales and "researchers".
    QRS Director replied 2018-11-14 12:43:31
    Dear Jenny,

You may find the following information useful:

Signing up to the TPS register does not stop individuals or organisations receiving genuine market research calls. The validity of data is extremely important and we work for a variety of organisations that includes Government Departments, the Health Sector and financial organisations.

Market Research is not the same as marketing or sales and we operate under a strict code of conduct.

We appreciate that you did not wish to take part in the study we called about. If you would like to contact us through the channels on our website we will ensure that you number is removed from the study.

    Kind regards,
    Jenny replied 2018-11-14 12:56:32
As I said above, we did ask you not to call us but your operator point blank refused to remove our numbers from your spam list, saying simply that your were exempt from the TPS (or words to that effect). As I recall, she was quite rude too. That's why we've now blocked all the numbers we know you use.

I see you've given another number in a reply to another complainant. Thank you, I've had that added to our blacklist too now.
    QRS Director replied 2018-11-14 13:06:11
    Dear Jenny,

We would like to investigate if you have had a negative experience with one of our members of staff. Would you kindly contact us and let us know the number that we would have called you on and the approximate time of the call.

We require all our staff to follow our procedures and would like to investigate.

    Kind regards,
    Jenny replied 2018-11-14 13:14:31
It was several months ago and, as I've said, I've solved the problem by blocking all the numbers we know you use. If you find some way to circumvent that we'll have to consider legal action to abate the nuisance.
    QRS Director replied 2018-11-14 13:21:35
    Dear Jenny,

We have no interest in circumventing any rules and calling you if you do not wish to be contacted by us in the future. However, unless you contact us directly we can not investigate any further.
