DanP88 reported 02032869239 'Microsoft Support Team' with the number +442032869239 as Cost trap
Received a phone call from 'Microsoft Support Team' on 020 3286 9239 regarding a piece of software on my PC that allows Microsoft to monitor windows 8, stressed that I had not consented to this, but was assured it was legal and it was a Microsoft license, and that a senior engineer, by the name of Shane Peterson) would help me resolve the issues and get my PC working again. I had not noticed anything wrong with the PC no lagging of any kind or anything, but the Eventvwr was showing a shocking amount of errors, and I was told it was viruses from the internet attacking my program files but the Antivirus would not be able to detect them, and that they would be able to remove the problems without losing my files. Anyway I moved away from my PC and returned to it a few minutes later, still on the phone to who I believed were Microsoft at the time, to find that the PC was being controlled remotely and Advanced Windows Care v2 was being installed. That set alarm bells off so used the details I had taken down previously and did a google search, I found info on this site regarding these fraudsters. I disconnected the PC from the internet and turned the PC off to stop any more of my info being transmitted to them. They just laughed at me and said 'check your computer' when I confronted them about the online complaints. It was too late, they had encrypted the hard drive so when the computer booted up you couldn't do anything. I asked them for the password and it was either a case if letting them proceed to 'clean-up' the so called errors or pay £50 for the password. I hung up the phone, but the continued to call back, threatening to also block my iPhone if I did not go through with either of their requests. I contacted PC World's KnowHow help desk who got my computer up and running again within a couple of hours, restore to factory settings, yes you will loose everything on the hard drive but you lost it all the minute they took control of your PC!

Got a call from this number from a representative (Indian, claiming to be Mark) claiming to be from Microsoft. He said that they'd received reports of my computer being hacked.
I asked for verification of identity which was not given. He kept talking about a serial number which nobody except Microsoft and I would know.
I went along with the first couple of steps, but became increasingly suspicious. I asked for the representatives name and number. On googling the number it appears that this is a scam.Colin replied 12/17/15, 6:56 PMI too went along with them but unfortunately to a point where the locked my computer although fortunately did not provide any financial info. Should have known better but I had just minutes earlier had problems with my laptop so got sucked in. So as these comments note Do Not Give Them Any Info or follow any of their instructions on your machine. Instead tell the thieving b******* to clear off -

Claimed to be from microsoft and I had viruses on my system. Number came up as international. I played dumb to see what he would do. He took me to a login for remote access. That site looked genuine and I have reported abuse. I told him I couldn't do anything until I'd spoken to my some. I said I could ring him on my mobile so left him hanging. Went back to tell him I couldn't get my son on his landline and would try his mobile. I then told him my son was coming over and would be 20 minutes. I asked for his name and number so we could call back. He gave me this number and an address of Cardinal Place, Victoria Street, London. I said "Oh I thought Microsoft was in America"
He told me to google it. "Oh No" I said "John told me not to touch the computer until he gets here"
Kept him on the phone for 31 minutes!!!!

Will reported unknown with the number 02032869239 as Trustworthy number
Called by a very Asian sounding guy called Ronnie Williams telling me that there was problems with my computer. I played along saying Ronnie Williams was a very English name. He said he was in Shri Lanka and that his father was English! Lies, lies, lies. I pretended that I had called BT on Friday about probs with my computer (a lie) and he told me he was ringing me as a result!! The cheek of this man. He said he would charge me £5 for a technician to call at my house and to have my card ready. I told him I didn't have a card. The call ended here but I had kept him on the line for over 7 mins, so hopefully that's 7 mins they had to pay for the call and 7 mins when other people weren't pestered by this scamming bar steward. Incidentally, the number came up as Withheld but I asked for a contact name and number.

A definite scam!! Can be resolved by a safe boot and picking up a previous restore point - I did this on an old laptop, anticipating the scam. -

Usual Indian call centre criminal fraud scam pretending to be Microsoft support in an attempt to persuade the gullible to allow them remote control of your computer in order to install scamware and force you to pay a ransom. Just either hang up or string them along for a bit of fun if you are happy to do so - just don't follow any of their instructions...

Anon reported AskPCExperts with the number +442032869239 as Cost trap
Asian boiler-room scam pretending to offer Windows Support. Will extort money from you if you let them into you computer by locking it with a password. You may be able to find the password on the internet with a search. All the stuff they tell you is errors and warnings from hackers or viruses is rubbish. They're just normal Windows logs which are often errors and warning and perfectly normal.

Haha, these people are simpletons! However they look to prey on peoples fears of computers so therefore are low life scum, bottom feeders of life. I use their time to have a little fun, a joke at their expense, but they need to be stopped as they are looking to gain profit by false representation. The authorities should act!

Asian voice (Peter) told me my PC was infected. I asked how much it would cost to fix, but he wanted me to switch on the PC to check level of infection first. He asked what I could see when I switched it on - I said Apple. He disconnected the call!
Unfortunately registering with the TPS doesn't stop these calls, as they are I believe ringing from overseas even though they go through a UK number. -

As above wanted to take control of my computer as he had evidence it was being hacked. I had some fun for several minutes with the foreign sounding caller. Eventually asked me to switched on my computer to which I said I did not have a computer. He accused me of wasting his time : what a cheek and he put the phone down on me! Suggest if you have the time you do the same.

strictly red reported number 02032869239 as windows technical dept
A foreign sounding gentleman called me today, said he was from windows technical dept and my pc had been severely hacked and he needed me to turn it on to sort it out. Of course I didn't, but did ask where he was based and what number he was calling from, he gave me a different one than had come up on my phone display, 08081893370 and said he was based in leicester 207 melton road LE46 QD. it certainly didn't sound like that, so I said htnaks for letting me know, bye for now and hung up. Since I am registered on the TPS I thought they shouldn't be ringing me and asked him bout that, he didn't seem to have an answer

Called tonight. Sharon with an Indian accent. Claimed to be Microsoft in response to numerous fault reports from my computer. knew it was a scam but decided to play along to see what she would ask. She asked if I was only user of computer. I asked why that would matter. She said she needed to speak to computer owner. I became quite officious asking who owned computer. I said that was none of her business and I knew this was a scam and she hung up.

As other callers mentioned below I received a call last night at 21:40 from a male saying he was a techician from Microsoft and that he had evidence that my PC was being hacked for pornography purposes by the Chinese and others. I asked his name and how he got my telephone number, he told me he got my number through Windows but I am ex-directory and alarm bells started ringing. He then asked me to go to my computer and he would show me how this happens. I immediately hung up. He then called me back and asked why I hung up ? By this time I was furious and told him not to phone me again and to f**k off !! Please beware of this scam. I live in Tayside Scotland

Frank reported Microsoft Technical Support with the number 02032869239 as Cost trap
Been getting calls from this number many time per day for over a week.
Sometimes they hang up as soon as I say "Hello". Sometimes they try to tell me I have a problem with my computer.
If I have time, I have fun leading them on. Sometimes I'm busy and just tell them to go forth and multiply.
It's concerning that there will be people who will get caught by these parasites. -

Get em back!! reported ASKPCEXPERTS with the number 02032869239 as Cost trap
Indian call centre asking me to press windows+R and type in www.ammyy.com.
Unfortunately for the poor guy 'Peter' and his supervisor 'Nick ANDERSON' I am wise to this scam and having time on my hands decided to have some fun....
Managed to put on my doddery old man voice and had them on phone for hour and half (at least they were footing the bill and not able to scam others during this time).
When I got bored I confronted 'Nick' telling him I was registered with TPS and he promptly responded saying 'this is not a sales call, we provide support'. He became aggressive and said he was based in Iraq and he would infect my computer with terrorist information and demanded £400 to remove it.....Nice try 'Nick' how are you going to do that!!!

Just call the number back repeatedly and make up some nonsense or even tell them they have a problem with their computer- they'll get sick of it eventually if we all do it. I have also registered their number with as many doubling glazing/insurance/estate agent "call me back" services as I can.
