just got some dodgy call from this number asking me to log in at some website, I couldn't hang up the phone, I pressed the button to hang up many times and it did nothing, I unplugged my phone from the wall socket and then plugged it back in and lifted up the phone and it was STILL on the line, how is that even possible?

I usually leave the answer phone do the work due to these calls. I'm registered with but picked it up and just an open line with nobody talking. I hung up then tried to do 1471 but line still open for about 3-4 minutes before I could get a line out. Very irritating as I am on call with my job and am forever doing 1471 and calling people back.

I was called 3 times by this number ,twice no one answered but on the 3rd attempt an Asian man who seemed to know all my details told me there was a fault on my computer ,and only they could fix it !,I smell a scam ! ,so I told him to go away ,5 mins later he called again ,all I can say is they must be desperate to make money ! .

This is just another unsolicited attempt to try and extort money from me. These people are in the very same category as the con man and criminal who try and wheedle their way into my house via the use of the phone line. This time they tried a text messaging service. ALL (and I stress all) these unsolicited calls are dealt with as a criminal act and are treated as such, no matter what their source. The number is recorded on one phone and the number is blocked on another. If we all had call blockers they would soon give up. I have gotten these calls down to about one every three weeks, at one point it was 3 to 4 calls ever day.
ATA replied 3/16/14, 6:51 PMI have had a similar experience but, without any action on my part, like you, the number of calls has decreased. I have noticed that they tend to come in waves, with long quiet periods in between.
As for the [Government] legislation which is supposed to regulate this sort of thing - you might as well forget about it - almost completely ignored. -

Was called by 08456021111 three times in succession today telling me that the number 079034105145 had left a message on the landline, it was another devious unsolicited nuisance caller. BT please take note, as your speech/text service number is being used inappropriately .

This is a bt text to audio system used by fraudsters to scam people out of their hard earned money, it is not safe , its the exact opposite, its very dangerous, we still have sad dangerous people leaving false post on here and other sites in the hope elderly people will read them and get confused after reading the fake posts, this is what the scammers want so they can steal their pension pots. no genuine messages come through this service so just block through your own phone provider. HAVE A SAFE LIFE.

It is an automated service used by most phone operators that calls landlines to deliver text messages in audio format that get sent to landlines. It is not a scam service.
Avoiding scammers misusing this service is easy and more information has been posted on this feed. Blocking this number is also easy as is reported by 'raven' - the top rated post on this feed. Blocking genuine business numbers is not recommended. Also blocking systems on landlines have an upper limit on blocked numbers and will fail when the limit is exceeded. Phoned several times and three times today. Only answered to find out who it was. Said there was a message and press 1 (scared but I did it) someone mumbled something I could not understand and that was it. Hope it's not going to cost me.

I had previously blocked a scam to my mobile requiring me to text answers back and lo and behold I am getting texts to my land line. I checked this number and saw it was a scam and have barred it from my home phone now.
