BT Text Message Service from 08456021111 - Expert Analysis

The phone number +448456021111 belongs to British Telecommunication (BT) and is used for service calls to customers who received a text message on their landline. If you answer the call, a robo-voice will inform you about the message and the original phone number that was trying to reach you. The text message will be transformed into a voice message and read out loud once you press a button to confirm. If you did not pick up the call, you will be left with a text message. However, official phone numbers from large companies are also often the target for scammers and you may receive a call from this number when it is spoofed. Always check if the call seems legitimate to you and whether you even use such services, otherwise, do not respond.

An alternative to using this 0800 number to block or change the times it calls is just send your landline a text message. This number should call a few seconds later (subject to your mobile network) and you can safely pick up and listen to the instructions. When you answer, the computer will always read out your mobile number so you know it's genuine. Like the 0800 number, there is no charge.
    Nick replied 2/1/21, 4:18 PM
It is a BT text service when a text message has been sent to a land line. Selecting option 1 will cause the text to be read out.

This 0800 phone number will certainly work if you want to block this number at source. It can also be used to change the time that this number can call. But think before you decide to block it. This number is calling from a BT Openreach owned and operated computer system used by most phone operators and many businesses and services to relay audio translations of text messages that someone has sent to your non-text enabled landline phone. Mostly the calls will be from someone you know hitting your landline number instead of your mobile number by mistake when sending a text or when you gave your landline number when ordering things or making appointments. This service is free to answer and anyone can test it by sending a text to your own landline. This number will call a few seconds later. When you pick up listen carefully to all the introductory message.

Attachments and links will likely cause this text to speech to landline translation and relay service number to fail and the whole message will be lost. You should be told the originating number when you pick up that annoying ringing phone.

    1/25/23, 5:08 PM

This number is owned and operated by BT Openreach and is used by most phone operators to relay audio translations of text messages someone sent to your landline. Unless you change the settings this number will keep calling between 7am and 10pm until it is answered or it times out and deletes the message after 24 hours
The computer will tell you to press 1 to pick up the message after telling you the originating phone number. Never press any button. Just hang on and the free to answer message will eventually be read out.
Try testing the system by sending a text to your landline. That's what these calls sound like if genuine.
Be aware that the BT computer does have limitations. If can't work with answerphones and will struggle with txt tlk lolx xx lol ;-( emojis links and long complex numbers

Text message came through to my landline. This number called, computer voice said it was BT, told I had a text message and told me the number that sent it. Hung up at that point but checking my contacts list as this number called again. Same message but picked out the number as someone I know. Pressed 1 this time. Friend sent message to my landline by mistake. The computer read it out. Not with BT so a bit confused. although I know Openreach look after the phone lines into my house. I think this must rate as trustworthy as introduction clear and can be checked.

Anon 13 reported SMS Message with the number ‎08456021111 as Trustworthy number

    8/17/23, 12:30 PM

Just had another audio text to my landline via this number. Someone I know clicked on my landline number by mistake when sending the text. It keeps happening. Info that I have got to know about this service copied below.

This number will keep calling your landline because someone has sent a text to it. The system is attempting to relay an audio translation. This is the BT owned text to speech to landline translation and relay service number used by most phone operators and many businesses and organisations. It has been operating for nearly 2 decades. Be aware that the system can’t work with answerphones and will keep on and on trying to deliver the message until it times out and deletes the message after 24 hours, or is blocked, or is answered. The system is free to answer. It only works on landlines. You can call back within the 24 hour period to retrieve your message. There is a business rate charge of 5p per minute plus your network connection charge to call back

When you pick up the call, the system will tell you the originating number and then give you options to press buttons on your phone. IGNORE THE OPTIONS. Just hang on and the computer will read out the message when it runs out of options. That is the safest way to pick up your message – no one should press a button on your phone just because a computer tells you. Be aware the system is not perfect. The system has problems translating long complex numbers like order/reference numbers or txt abbreviations and can’t handle emojis/links/attachments which could cause the entire message to fail. Scam texts can’t be filtered out but the scam number to report is the originating number not this relay number.

This number will NOT call between 11pm and 7am. It is possible to change the curfew time or block this number at source by calling 08005875252. You can also do this by sending a text to your own landline (also a good way to check/test/verify this number). This number will call. It is free to answer. It will tell you your mobile number (that confirms the call is genuine) and then the options will include blocking or changing the curfew time. Think before blocking genuine business numbers

If you want to block this number, make sure there is no chance that you could get a text to your landline. Such texts could be from friends or relatives sending texts to landline by mistake. Texts could also be from any businesses or organisations that have your landline number as the contact and many of these will send automated text messages to the contact number. These could include gas, electricity, water, phone/broadband providers, school, work, NHS, pharmacy, dentist, optician, insurance company, and any other company or organisation given your landline number as the contact number. And ONLY give your mobile number when making appointments or ordering stuff for delivery or collection. I’ve had audio text messages to my landline from many of these sources over the years with no problems. Also be aware that there are parts of the UK with patchy mobile reception and there are some people who do nor own a mobile so they have no option but to give a landline number as the contact.

A google search of this number and checking ALL the results will provide more info. Also check the banner post above.

BT text to landline audio translation service. Very annoying as keeps ringing until you answer and clicks off when answer phone clicks in. Answered after ignoring several calls. Suspicious as voice told me to press 1 to hear message as this usually means connecting to a scam premium rate number but recognised the originating mobile number. Relative sent text to my landline by mistake. Hope scammers don't spoof this number!!

This is a legitimate BT service, it's automated to read aloud text messages sent to your land-line number. You can control this by calling freephone 0800 587 5252 (yes, it's free). For those who say "I'm not on BT" you're missing the point, you don't have to be a BT customer, it's a free service. Just call freephone 0800 587 5252 (yes, for free! ) then listen to the options. Simples!

Beats me how anyone can decide a caller is a scam without finding out what the call is about! This number will keep calling over a 24 hour period as it is attempting to relay an audio translation of a text some guy sent to your landline. After that time the message will be deleted from the system. You cannot be scammed by picking up the phone and listening. Plenty of info around that explains what to do next if you don't want to press any number.

The 0800 number that Raven has posted about (top rated post) should have an option to change the default time that this number can call as well as blocking this number. If it's not working complain to BT. This number should not call at silly o'clock in the middle of the night. BT will need to be told that their text to speech to landline translation and relay service number is not working as it should
Jabba The Butt replied 10/13/23, 12:35 AM
This near unless bt text to speech service is being utilised by scammers who either come through as a message asking you to press 1 where you often get charged in the hundreds or they come through as a call pretending to be from bt asking you to "confirm" your bank details If you dial 0800 587 5252 and press option 1 and option 5 it should opt you out providing you don't withhold your number. I suggest you do this if you don't use the service as thousands of pentioners have been scammed out of their life savings. Anon 13 should be familiar with that fact.
    Anon 13 replied 10/13/23, 10:36 AM
I am certainly familiar with the fact that scammers can spoof this genuine BT owned and operated text to speech to landline translation and relay service number. That's why I post how to avoid scammers spoofing this usually safe number so only genuine messages get listened to. (You don't press buttons on your phone when requested and you will not speak to anyone - you just listen and do nothing except listen).

I am not familiar with the comment that this number has been used to scam thousands of pensioners out of their life savings. That hasn't happened. This one person posting on this feed using many weird name tags has a very twisted imagination

This number was calling all night. It's the number that BT use to translate text to speech messages. I do not have a landline managed by BT. As far as I'm concerned, by what I've read online, scammers have intercepted the BT number. One person who answered the call had £80 added to her BT phone bill!!! If you're with BT and you dial the number directly, BT will let you know if you have any messages.

Parcel Force do text ahead of deliveries to give an ETA of when the parcel is expected to arrive at its destination. If the contact number is a landline, the text will arrive in audio format via this BT owned text to speech to landline translation and relay service number.
Delivery scam texts will always have a link to click on. On a landline?
Also, the safety advice posted about this free to answer service tells you NOT to press 1 just because a computer voice asks you to do. Hang on and say and do nothing and the message will be read out.
If you get a scam text via this fully automated service, the scam number to report will be the originating number not this relay number. The system will always tell you the originating number of the text when you pick up.
But also check out the other posts with the name tag 'Bannana Baroness' (and other silly name tags) on this feed and on other phone number checking sites. This person really has a thing about this genuine and usually safe messaging service and seems to hate it when people get messages and post about it

Just read that post from Jellybean. Jellyfishbrain more like. And as for Fanjita Patel, google the word 'fanjita' and you will know what I mean. Sadly there is a cabal of not very bright adolescents having what they think is fun by posting foul language posts on sites like this and also making up silly name tags.
This number is, by the way, a usually safe messaging service operated by BT and used by most phone operators to ensure text messages sent to non text enabled landline phones get relayed on in audio format. There is plenty of other info on this feed.

Anon 13 is clearly off his meds again, his fascination with the name Fanjita is unhealthy, not everyone is a deviant like him. I suggests he talks to his pastor and confess his scamming sins and pray ? to Jesus for forgiveness.his mind and sould are consumed with the pleasures of the flesh and carnal desires.

Fanjita Patel reported British Telecommunication (BT) with the number ‎08456021111 as Cost trap

    9/27/23, 6:56 PM

This number is not safe and the green poster knows it. Its very dangerous, scammers are not only spoofing the messaging service to get you to press 1 for a cost trap of being forwarded to a scammer. They are actually able to come through this number as a call and pretent to be from BT and attempt to get details. If you block this service you wont miss any messages because nobody ever has any ! The fact that this green posting grifter sits day and night, 7 days a week 365 days a year trying to get people to think that this number is safe through bare face lies says it all !

Eleanor Chowdry replied 9/27/23, 10:38 PM
Thank you Fangita for another insightfull post ! I have now blocked the service since it is of no use to me and the scam messages have all but stopped !
    Anon 13 replied 9/28/23, 9:41 AM
Information about this BT owned text to speech to landline translation and relay service number posted on this feed will tel you not to press numbers just because a disembodied computer voice tells you. The text message will be read out when the computer gets to the end of the list of options. You can't be scammed just by picking up the annoying ringing phone provided you do absolutely nothing except listen.

Most phone providers use this BT service to ensure text messages sent to landlines get delivered. There are several techy companies offering this text audio translation service to clients and the phone operators will not use this BT service if it was inherently unsafe.

This is a fully automated service. The top rated post on this feed will tell you how to block this number if that's what you want but think very carefully before blocking genuine business numbers unless there is no chance that you will get genuine calls from that number.

Blocking numbers will not reduce the scam calls and texts we all get. Scammers will just keep using any one of millions of computer generated fake or spoofed numbers. Scam numbers and the scam details should be reported by text to '7726' as well as on number checking sites like this one. (This number is just a relay number. The originating number will be told to you by the computer when you pick up the phone). For more details about scams and scam reporting google 'action fraud' and go onto the 'police.uk' site

Your useless word salads make no diferenc3. We all know what the service is and what it does. What you fail to mention is the fact that thousands of old and vulnerable people have been scammed after reading your misleading post and assuming it's safe.

This is a bt tx to audio service, the fact that its obvious fraudsters are using it is enough to set alarm bells ringing, and the fact that the green poster still insists this number is safe to use when 99.9% of everyone else says different, for christ sake, one sad little man, and only one sad little man on a crusade to get us all scamed, the proof this service is dangerous is right there for all to read, but yet the green post compulsive liar still says there fake, SERIOUSLY.

    Anon 13 replied 9/23/23, 5:53 PM
The sillier the name tag, the sillier the post.
The posts that I put on tells you how to avoid scammers misusing this BT owned and operated text to speech to landline translation and relay service number (you just pick up the ringing phone and do absolutely nothing except listen). It is a free to answer service. Only very daft people will press numbers on your phone when a disembodied computer voice tells you. Hang on and the message gets read out. You can't be scammed by just listening. Don't do anything else. Most phone providers use this BT system and have been doing so for many years.
I noticed a couple of recent posts on this feed confirming genuine messages. Read back a couple of pages and the posts confirming a genuine message far outnumber the posts confirming a scam call from this number

Text message came to my landline in audio. It was BT telling me my bill was ready. Strange! It was ready and I had an email saying it was. I didn't press numbers on my phone as I wasn't sure. I just let it play out. The message was read out after the computer voice stopped telling me to press buttons.

This text to speech to landline translation and relay service number is fully automated. It translates text messages sent to landlines into audio. The system cannot ask for any information. Plenty of info about this number on this feed. But there are too many very obvious fake scam reports. The person posting this stuff has problems and does not want anyone to get their message. Anyone who knows how this BT system works can pick them out. Check the top rated post from Raven and read all the responses. Don't get scammed but don't miss your message either.

This Anon 13 person has been on many sights harassing people who write negatively about this service. Ask yourself why ? Since he doesn't work for BT and has been harassing people for 9 years trying to convince people this number is safe. BT even told me this number is not to be trusted as it is often used by scammers. Rest assured Anon 13 is a scammer !
    Anon 13 replied 9/15/23, 10:30 PM
How can any of the posts from Anon 13 be from a scammer? BT, incidentally, do not say this number is unsafe. It has been relaying text messages that get sent to to landlines in audio format since 02 was part of BT. Most phone providers use this service. They wouldn't use it if it was unsafe. Check the other posts on this feed including ALL the responses to the Raven post. Also google this number and check it out.

    Anon 13 replied 9/28/23, 9:53 AM
There are no BT directors with the title 'Director of Communications'. BT do not say anywhere that their number is unsafe. Most phone providers use this BT service to ensure text messages are relayed to the intended destination. They wouldn't use it if this service is inherently unsafe. The safety information posted on this feed will tell you how to avoid scammers misusing this service.

Guardian, Fangita (who also calls itself Fanjita on this feed) Patel, Gislaines Little Black Book, Miss Muchacha Keyboard Warrior, MissMoonbump and other silly name tags are the same individual with a problem. This fake post and weird name tag has appeared on many phone number checking sites. That name tag should be banned by phone number checking sites.

Google the word 'fanjita' and you will understand what I mean. It is certainly not a Gujarati forename or any forename.
    Anon 13 replied 9/3/23, 9:41 AM
The person using the name 'Fanjita Patel' has problems and has been spamming up all phone number checking sites with fake scam reports about this number for years. Always using different aliases.

Registan is in Uzbekistan. An ancient place where Muslims gathered to watch public executions.
Patel is a Gujarati surname. The Gujarati are Hindu.
Fanjita is a new urban swear word and refers to part of the femail anatomy.
Do not confuse 'fanjita' with 'fajita', a Tex Mex food.
This number - 08456021111 - is a usually safe fully automated text to speech to landline translation and relay service number used by most phone providers to ensure SMS messages sent to landlines get delivered. It helps to understand how the system works. Details have been posted on this feed.

This was not automated text it was an Indian sounding women saying she was from BT and that she was calling because there was a problem with our internet speed. I said the internet was fine - she hung up.
If it was BT - rude! but like some have said, if the number was cloned, could be trouble.

This number is a genuine automated messaging service. It calls landlines with an audio translation of a text message someone sent to it. You will never speak to a real person when you answer the call. It will only call landlines. It is not a scam number per se. Most calls will be genuine text messages that someone sent to a landline. Spoofed genuine business numbers are a serious and dangerous problem that this government must tackle - one of its many roundtoits.

This IS a BT number. Relays audio translations of text messages sent to a non-text enabled landlines and used by most phone operator. Usually safe to pick up and listen. DO NOT press any buttons on your phone when this number calls as instructed by the computer - just keep listening. This service is free to answer. Try sending a test text to your landline 2c what happens. This is an opt out service. One option you will be given when you pick up is to opt out of future calls. Takes about 30 mins to kick in.
