Cold called, spoke to my wife, asked for me and only me. Would not disclose what or why they were calling for, unless they spoke to me due to data protection. Well I wasn't expecting any company to call so I would put them down as phishing..........

Absolutely disgusting that it's LEGAL for them to call you especially at 7.55pm after you've been to work all day to answer What do you think of the world today? gees!! It was a recording.
now how do we know it's not for the company and when you answer YES they divert the call to con people. If I wanted give my opinion I wouldn't wait for these companies to phone me.
The UK government has a lot to answer not stopping any cold call.

No, market research calls are not covered in the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 therefore companies conducting these types of calls are still allowed to call a TPS registered number. If you do not want to receive such calls, inform the caller to remove your details from their call lists.

Survey for government by Ipsos Mori regarding cyber security in business; had this type of call before - quite long - about 15 minutes, but necessary evil if we are to thwart criminals.

These calls come from a company that collects opinions on whats happening in your country now! The more people answer the questions, the more people will get the kind of government they want! They call at times most likely not interfering with work etc....

I work for Mori, reading these comments are pretty hilarious so thought I'd clear some things up.
Ipsos Mori is the UKs leading research company. You can go to ipsos-mori.com and get all the information you need. Being ex directory or tps doesn't matter. TPS is for sales calls, MORI is a research company, they don't sell anything. They also are commissioned by various companies and government departments from the BBC to the DWP. They can call to get feedback on the benefit system or to recruit your household to the TV audience viewing board which generates the TV viewing figures in the media, but they are only after 16-23 householders hence the two questions others have mentioned. That's only two of the survey's, there's normally around 10 running every day and the clients change constantly. Could be one of the UKs leading banks, could be a political party.
It's in YOUR best interest to answer these calls as it's to get YOUR opinion on things you've done or how you feel about certain issues. However if you definitely don't want to take part the only way to stop the calls is to pick up and say you don't want to take part and you will be instantly removed from the calling list. We do not leave answer machine messages as we are looking to talk to people there and then.
Also calling hours for the public are mon-fri 5-9 and weekends 10-7, they call during these hours as that's when people are home, most folk aren't home during office hours.
So just to sum up, research is not illegal, you should do it, and Mori is not a sales company!
