These guys often call me. Pretending to be from Microsoft or Talk Talk to help me with a problem on my computer. Not being in work at the moment I have a personal target for how long I can string them along. Longest is 44 minutes before they give up but usually 20 minutes or so.

If all of us just string them along (don't go near your computer, just pretend) then they'll possibly abandon their scam calls (at least they're not bothering some less capable person whilst we do this).

I get loads of these. Most of the time I just hang up or I tell them as an IT support professional I a) Know the call is a scam and b) If I really had a problem that I couldn't fix myself I very much doubt they'd they'd have the technical skills to help. Occasionally if I have a rare idle moment I'll play with them. If they tell me I have a problem with my Windows, I tell them I work in a basement, don't have any windows and start bending their ear about how awful my employer is to shut me away in a basement etc. They tend to terminate the call quite quickly. Another ruse is to justgo along with everything they ask me to do. They usually get frustrated very quickly because they tend to start with press and hold the 'Windows Key' and then press 'R'. Which I dutifully do. Then then tell me to type in the box. What box? They eventually get very frustrated with the 'dumb user'and hang up, or they finally ask me what version of Windows I'm using and I innocently reply Linux. They tend to give up at that point, I'm not sure if that's because they don't have a script to cover that scenario or because they realise that people who use alternate operating systems have a lower probability of being gullible enough to scam.

I have winamp constantly open on my PC with a great dubstep mix ready to play them.... when they call I as "so tell me, do you like dubstep?" ... then leave them to enjoy it.... clocked up about 30 calls from this number now, I think they secretly like my dubstep mix! lol

This number called me. The 02031 gave it away as probable junk. Simply lifted the receiver and left it on the desk without listening to it. Checked this website for the number. Read the comments. Put the number in my blocklist. Put the receiver back on the hook. Simples.

But if they are spoofing other numbers does call blocking work?

  4. arma reported unknown with the number 02031988103 as Harassment calls

CLI came up as a local number. This time no answer. Usually a windows helpline (not) or a spurious survey.

Either spoofs my local town code or the neighbouring one so cannot filter. Calls every day at least once for months.

  5. Tim Harvey reported number 02031988103 as unknown

Saying they are from GURUAID wanting to get into my pc because of pop-ups which they want to rectify but they had wrong info, telephoned at 18.05 (usual cold call times) using the giveaway 'how are you today sir'.

keep calling to say about Microsoft. I ask which Officer they wish to speak to. which leads me to tell them they have called a police station and their call is possibly being recorded. They soon hang up.

Just had a call from this number saying they were form Microsoft and that my computer was sending out a virus and if I didn't fix it with there help my internet would be shut off in 30 mins. Didn't ask for me by name and wouldnt't say how they got my number as I'm on the TPService. Phoned my provider and was told it's probably a scam and not to give out any info.
